This probably requires an "outside the box" answer:
Can I install 2 thermostats on a single stage system if the power is only applied to one at a time?
I wish to use an X10 telephone transponder to switch the power from a thermostat set to a low maintenance temperature to one set to room temperature at a vacation home prior to my arrival.
I have done this with 2 low voltage thermostats on an electric heating system. I have since changed to central gas forced air/ AC using a conventional thermostat.
There are remote control thermostats on the market, but I don't need all their functionality (and expense).
Ideally, I would like to parallel all the wiring and switch the hot lead from the 24 VAC transformer between the two thermostats.
Will it work?

Yes you can use 2 however why not just buy a communicating thermostat?

I could buy a communicating thermostat. The only ones that I saw though, were about $200 +.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I personally don’t know much about X-10, I really didn’t expect the thermostat to cost that much.
