I ahave a carrier furnace (model 58gs100-1) and am trying to change the gas valve. I am having a hard time trying to hook up the wires to the new valve (White-Rodgers Model ef32cw183). Can you please help. thank you

Why do you think it is the valve? If this is a 5 wire valve with a 3 wire flame switch type pilot you really have to know how to troubleshoot. Like was said, it is normaly the pilot

I had a serviceman come out from the local gas company and he said thier was a leak in the valve. Said a switch was sticking.

Are u sure u have the right gas valve. From what is see from the diagram it take a special gas valve. Normally its the pilot switch that goes bad(not sure exactly the name its the 3 wire piece near the pilot).
