Hi,
We have a Janitrol furnace and tried earlier to get it turn on with no luck. We've tried every configuration with the on/off knob and the handle that opens/closes the gas line and we just can't figure out which way the knob & handle are supposed to be turned.

Last year we had nearly the same trouble figuring it out but managed then to get it turned on and it worked fine all winter up until April/May of this year.

We did have a new motherboard installed almost 2 years ago so we don't see how that could be the problem. I did call the place that replaced the motherboard but they want $65 just to come out and even if we could afford that they can't come until after Nov. 8th.

We've followed the directions that are on the cover and get nothing. We are both adults and feel really stupid for not being able to figure this out but if someone could lead us through the process that would be great because it's COLD, we're broke, and need advice!

Janitrol model GMP 100-3
Serial # 9411076770

Thanks :O)

UPDATE: It seems that there are red lights blinking on the board and the diagram says this is caused by crossed wires---how can this be when no one has touched the board since it was installed, and it worked fine last year??

Look closely at all the wires that connect to the control board to be sure they're secure and not touching each other. You need to look and listen to what happens when you call for heat at the thermostat. One of you go and set the thermostat above the house temp while the other is at the furnace with paper and pencil. Write down what you hear as it happens, in chronological order. For example you should hear the small draft inducer motor start as soon as the thermostat is set higher than house temp. Possibly a few seconds later you may notice the pilot system getting hot or sparking in anticipation of the gas valve opening. Then you may hear the click of the gas valve. Let us know what you hear.

Hi,
Well to answer your question, we heard nothing at all, because nothing came on, nothing fired. Just dead silence. Since I first posted this request, we have called the repair company that replaced the first motherboard and since they had done that, they came out today--instead of making us wait 3 weeks, and they agreed to hold our check until payday--and put in another new motherboard. They told us this will be an ongoing problem and also that the blowers are wearing out but should last through winter. So we now have heat, but will be looking into replacing this furnace next year, way before winter of course.

Thanks for trying to help, and we will be searching the message boards to see which furnaces are the best.

Have a great day!
