When I first turn on my heater , it turns on and comes up to temperature but when the thermostat tells it to kick back on, it doesn't until I hit the cover on it. This does not happen when using the AC, which leads me to belive it is not the pin switch behind the cover. Any suggestions? The unit is only 4 yrs old.

Thank you!
It's an electronic T-stat. I found that if I lift the top cover up on the furnace, it will turn on. There's no pin switch behind the top cover, only the bottom and the issue doesn't happen with the Air Conditioning. It's a Ruud Model UGPH-10EAMER. Manufatured in 2001.

Hah......thought you were talking about hitting the t-stat cover....Well, look closely for a pinched or worn wiring behind your furnace cover. Maybe the cover is shorting out the wiring.
