How can I tell what type of heating system I have, whether it is 1 stage or multi-stage? The only manual I could find is for the Bryant FB4, which i think is just the Fan exchange unit. I bought a Honeywell VisionPro 8000 thermostat (replacing a luxpro dh100) for 1 heat/ 1 cool, but it looks like I have the wrong one because I have an extra wire the I cannot find out where to land. On the new thermostat the W terminal and the O/B terminal are on the same spot depending on the configuration. Can I parallel the W and O on the same terminal? Thank you in advance for your help.

not much info to go on there but it sounds like you have a heat pump, on the sub base of your vision pro it has 2 different columns on each side of the terminals one for heat pump and one for conventional, unless you got the wrong stat which is 1 stage heat and cool, which will not work for a heat pump.
if you have an orange wire wired up at your stat you have a heat pump, and you will need a stat that is at least 2 stage heat 1 stage cool and heat pump compatable. there are 2 different Vision Pro stats, 1 is 1 stage heat and cool and for gas heat or straight electric heat with air conditioning, the other has up to 3 stages of heat and 2 stages of cooling, you have to set that up in the options in the installer setup.
to answer your question if your thermostat is wired up with more than 4 or 5 wires it is multi-stage.
