Hello,

I bought & installed a new Honeywell TH320U thermostat yesterday, and everything is working great. My old t-stat was one of those really old ones, where you turn the dial, and uses the mercury... Anyway, as I said everything works just fine, but I was wondering if I could/should do the following:

My old t-stat didn't need power ("C" terminal), so the wire was never connected to the "C" connection on the furnace. I know I can run the new t-stat only on batteries, but I was hoping I could simply connect one of the unused wires (I have 4 or 5 of them) to the "C" terminal on the Furnace, and then connect that to the "C" terminal on the new t-stat, so that it is powered by that, and uses the batteries as backup only.

Would it be as simple as that? Just wondering, and making sure I don't fry anything...

Thanks for your help!

- Joe

YES, it is as simple as that as long as the t-stat will accept a common wire... some stats only use batteries...
