Model gas furnace Trane:TUE080A936 K2
replaced control board Trane part #: D341122P01
with White Rogers part #: CNT 03797

Installed a Honeywell humidifyer beginning of last winter (nearly a year ago) - hadn't turned it on yet this season.

Unfortunatley a couple of weeks ago I noticed that my fan sounded like it was on all the time. When I investigated I found water spraying everywhere (which it may have been doing for a few days) because a hole had melted into the hotwater line in to the humidfyer.

No light was lit on the ignition control module (ICM). I made the assumption that the ICM was bad, but didn't want to start replacing things at random - so called a local Trane certified tech. Young kid came out, checked the low-voltage and sundry other things (after telling me that the filter I had replaced a day earlier needed replacing...) and told me that, as expected the ICM was bad. Then he told me that everything else looked fine and it would cost me $695 for him to spend 1/2 hour replacing it (not sure if this was plus the $95 diagnostic fee or including it, but in anycase)... While I would not have objected to him saying $350 or $400 installed, I thought the charges were excessive.

End result, I ordered the replacement part about a week ago and installed it myself today. The new part seems to be fine (I'd call it a slow blinking light, but not having seen the fast blinking light, I don't have a frame of reference). Unfortunately, as the unit doesn't seem to be heating up (nor does the blower turn on when I set it to heat/auto), looks like something in additional is wrong.

I've doubled checked the wiring and can say with a fair amount of certainty that the board is installed properly. The airconditioning works and the fan works if it is put in the "on" position. Unfortunately there is no heat (no flame for that matter...)

If anyone can see something blatently obvious that I can do, please let me know. I'm also open to a referral to a decent HVAC repair person/company - that charges a reasonable rate. (As opposed to $700-$800 for less than 1 1/2 hours work including diagnostic and a part that costs $180 shipped...)

Thanks,
Paul

If you have a multimeter, call for heat and, at the furnace, measure the AC voltage between the W and C terminals. Do you get ~24 volts?

Paul,
The name on the unit says it all. Most trane parts are OEM and you have to go back to them to get a replacement part. They were at one time one of the best units you could buy but always more expensive.
As for the replacement cost of putting that new board on welcome to the cost of operating an AC Company now. Most tech are paid very well due to the knowlegde necessary to repair and troubleshoot this stuff today plus all the other expenses. He is quoting you a flat rate price i'm sure. This is what the industry has gone to today.
