I just purchased a Honeywell RTH8500D and I'm interested in finding a way to have the backlight always lit instead of turning off after 8sec. I heard that if you hardwire power to the unit, it will stay on constantly. Has anyone tried this before? Or, have any idea how this could be accomplished?

Thanks in advance!

Your t-stat manuel should have a configuration mode section,in this section it will walk you through steps to properly setup your stat for your application.
this is where you can set the stat to either keep the backlite on or off.

Thanks Doc! The problem that I'm having is that there is no power wire running from my furnace to the thermostat. Is it possible/difficult to do oneself?
