I ahve limited information on a unit I need answers to. On a R-22 system, out side temp is 86, inside is 74, suction pressure is 78# and head is 220#. Humidity is approx. 65%. Unit is running non stop to maintain this temp in a room roughly 600 sq. ft. in size, by the way it is a 18000 BTU split system what is going on?

Is the RH 65% indoors? Check temperature at return just before the coil and supply downstream from coil. Check suction line temperature at indoor coil. 78# suction would give you approximately 46 degree refrigerant entering indoor coil, and220# would equate to approximately 108 degree at the outdoor unit. Liquid line temperature at outdoor unit should also be taken. Suction line /LARGE liquid line Small

How old is the unit? Sounds to me like the head pressure is too low and the suction pressure too high. This usually indicates a worn compressor/bad valves that is losing capacity. I would expect about 65-70 suction and 250 head. Don't live in your area so I could be wrong. Not so humid where I am.
