Hello, My fan on my Carrier condensor won't start unless I tap the top of the unit with a rubber mallet. First I replaced the capacitor. It started for a day, then wouldn't start again. Then I replaced the motor and, again, it started for a day, then wouldn't start again. It still starts if I tap the unit with a rubber mallet. What could the problem be?
What keeps the condensor from starting when the fan doesn't start?
TIA, EGM

It may be the contactors inside the condenser unit. Most of the time the compressor and the fan are wired in paralle too operate at the same time. Make sure the condenser is leveled. This sometime causes the contactors to work improperly.

Could be a faulty contactor or poor wiring connections to it. Is the fan blade in good shape, not touching the cowling on the off cycle?

I'm with Yuri, you need to run new wires and replace the contactor, both cheap fixes

I replaced the contactor last night and so far, so good.
Thanks for the replies.
