Has any one had any experience with the goodmen furnace model GM H95 2- stage unit? Is this a decent unit if installed properly? Does it run quiet and is it reliable.

Goodman and "reliable" don't always go together too well. Sold lots of their GMS and other units. Cheaper builders grade furnaces. If you want the quietest well built high efficiency unit check out the Lennox G61 and G61 V units. 95% efficient. Sell lots of them. You get what you pay for.

Lennox are troublesome, goodmans are cheap and crappy, i agree, but Lennox is no better . Just my dealing with Lennox equipment was always a pain. seems like they don't test there new models long enough or something. The duracurve heat exchangers always broke, the complete heat was a joke, the pulse actually has a body count. Please wise heating men stay away from the big bad lennox....LOL

Fitter, from personal experience the lennox i currently have is a piece of junk. I ave had a lot of problems with it and want to replace it before the winter. Is there anyting in the Ammana line? I have several quotes from tempstar and rheem.

I would not reccommend Amana or Tempstar if you are after reliability. Look into Trane or American Standard, they are the same company and are consistantly rated number 1 by Consumer Reports. Stay completely away from Goodman, I bet I replace 30 boards a year on that crap, it's all they use in tract houses in my area.

I'm with Scott, stay away from those too, and American Standard is a good machine, Rheem is pretty good one too i think, given a choice I would go for American standard first and the Rheem I like is the 90%, quietest furnace I have ever heard.

The Rheem/Ruud products would be a close second choice, same company with two names, I haven't had to work on any of their newer products. When I work on a Rheem/Ruud they are usually at least ten years old. For some reason after they hit ten years they seem to have more service calls than the Trane/American Standard Products, but they are a good solid product. The last Consumer Report on Furnaces that I saw had: #1 American Stnd, #2Ruud, #3 Trane, #4 Rheem. So you can see two companies hold the top four spots.
If you look at the 90% furnaces I think they all have variable speed motors and all of the above brands are very quiet. Don't overlook the two stage 80% furnaces, they are very good as well. No matter what you get, see if you can get an extended warranty. A ten year parts AND labor warranty should be about 300 bucks for all the above brands. If that sounds steep consider that a variable speed blower motor runs at least 500 dollars just for the motor. A warranty is worth every penny when you start adding up how expensive parts are for modern equipment............Good Luck and shop around....Scott

Scott, thanks for the info on the furnaces. I have a rheem contractor stopping by this week. Tempstar contractor stated the newer units are much more reliable now. Were you refering to the newer units also as far their reliability? Will definitly put in a 90+ unit and am strongly considering the two stage.

Also will see if I can find a reliable contractor for a price on the American standard unit.
thanks

I wouldn't put a Tempstar or a Goodman on a dog house. Your phone book should list someone that sells Am Stnd or Trane, an authorized dealer is what you want, they have to keep records and customer surveys are completed. If your phone book doesn't list anybody, then go to americanstandard.com

Good luck...Scott
