ok so back in may i swapped out a honeywell mercury stat for a RTH7500.
I programed the 7500 to set the temp to 75 from 8 am to 4 pm while no one is at home. The program works but my concern is the fact that once the 4pm time comes it will take 5-6 hours to bring the temp down to the 72 deg set point that i programed. Seems to me i lose the energy savings there...
I have watched the temp display and the room temp will go down but it seems to hang for hours at the setpoint without turing off the A/C. And if it does sometimes once the unit turns back on it will run againg for hours.
I think this is a stat issue and the 7500 is just a piece of junk..
Should i just replace it? I have been looking at either the visionpro series or a White rogers model...any thoughts would be appreciated..

I regularly check and change the filters and they show no sign of excessive dirt and such..in fact the last one was barely had any dirt on it at all..
The airflow out of each register is very good so i am assuming the duct work is good.
I will try running the stat at 74 during the occupied time and see if that provides a good comfort feeling to us..

I agree with fitter 1st check your filter, easiest thing. On new houses you can have drywall dust and all other crap on there from construction.

What part of the country are you in? Whats the outdoor temp?

72 is a pretty low set point. Florida Power and Light recommends a setpoint of 78 degrees. Your also asking the A/C to cool down your home during the hottest part of the day, during the hottest month of the year. If your insulation and/or windows arent great ...good luck.

I live in Southeastern pa and the temps have been in the high 80's low 90's...
The unit is brand new only been in house since April..so the house is tight and i don't think the unit has any issue..
I don't feel 72 is that low but i might try to ease it up wards to find a level we can live with..hey it can only help conserve...

Most of my customers set programmable stats to 78-80 during the day and bring it down to 74-76 when they return. Just try to have reasonable expectations. If they sized your AC to cool your home to 70-72 during August,it would be oversized during April and May. You would have a clammy, muggy house the rest of the year.

Good Luck.

Have you had the A/C unit maintained. Freon level needs checking, condensor coil needs cleaning. Perhaps the unit is not cooling 100%. They can lose capacity as they get older. On hot humid days the unit will take a long time to catch up and can run longer. Get the unit checked by a pro before condemning the tstat.

While the Vision Pro is a better stat, this will not solve your problem. You should have your equipment serviced and your ducting inspected.
