Hi all
I recently purchased a home with a Coleman multistage heatpump and am trying to install a programmable t-stat. Have run into more wires than I am familiar with though.
Current Evcon t-stat model 3600-367/A has eight wires connected to R, G, O, Y, B, W2, X, and L with no wire on E. The X and B are the confusing ones here.
I found a White-Rodgers t-stat for multi-stage heatpumps, model 1F95-1277 labeled with RC, RH, G, O, Y, B, W2, W/E, L, C, Y2 plus a (6) for 3-wire zone valve and three more dedicated to a remote temp sensor. I know that RC and RH will get jumpered since it is a single transformer system.
It's the X on the Evcon t-stat that I have no clue what to do with as I would expect the B to go to B but research has shown that B can mean multiple things and that X can sometimes mean the same thing. I am getting most of my info from http://toad.net/~jsmeenen/wiring.html
Any help is much appreciated as I can find nothing specific to the Evcon t-stat on the web and I'm not ready to pay someone just yet.

have a picture of my base which is much different than the one above but am not sure how to post it. Thought I could copy and paste but there must be more to it than that.
One other thing, I did find an obsolete model from Honywell that has the exact same terminals as my old one but am unable to download the data sheet to verify terminal function.

It appears by that chart posted above however that the X on the Evcon = the C on the new one.
I you can tell me how to post the photo, I'll do that for the old one and new one just so there is no ambiguity. Doug

OK,
Here is a photo of my t-stat base.
I have also taken advantage of a little time today and looked closer at the wiring at the outside and inside unit and it revealed some useful info. It indicated the following wires were to be connected to the following terminals in the t-stat: Red to R Wht to W2 Org to O Pur to L Yel to Y Blk to C
On the inside unit (actually a Nordyne brand forced air electric heat unit) Grn to G Blu to X (Tied to Ht Pmp Blk) Red to R (Tied to Ht Pmp Red) Wht to W2 (Tied to Ht Pmp Wht)
This matches up with what it shows on the t-stat and after seeing this, I now know that the Tan colored wire connected to B on the Evcon t-stat is not connected to anything on the other end.
With this in mind and after looking at the wiring diagrams, I am now comfortable with X = C as al the others will have a direct swap.
Thanks for the help though if you see a flaw in my logic, I am not to proud to listen to those with more experience.
Thanks for the help
Doug
