We have a Bryant Heater/Cooler on our roof (a 584A according to the papers I got when we got the house). The house was built in 1990 and I assume that is the age of the heater.
So lately we had a problem where the burners would not always light. And slowly thru January we could hear the Heater click away and usually it started but after a number of clicks. Then about 3 weeks ago we came home to find it still trying to start but having not all day (house was about 5 degrees colder than thermostat was set for). I had tried to clean the sparker and the flame sensor but that didn't seem to do any good so we called out local HVAC guys. And $300 later I now have a new igniter control unit.
So far the heater has never failed to come on but this morning it clicked for a full minute before I heard the "woosh" that tells me the actual burners are lit. Maybe this is just the way these old units work but it sure is noisy and seems to my untrained ear to be wrong. I am not sure what else to try and don't really feel like paying a bunch of money just to be told this is "normal" also it seems like it is worse at night so when the tech comes in the middle of the day usually it only takes 1 or 2 clicks before it lights but at night it can take 20-30 clicks.
Any suggestions would be great.

Bump.
Still clicking about 50 times when it tries to turn on at night (when it is coldest). Sometimes it will click on right away but seems to be noisiest in the middle of the night.
