We have an older just regular home electric heater/AC unit. We first noticed in the summer that occassionaly the air coming out of the vents was not very cool, but if we turned the unit off and turned it back on the air would blow much cooler. Now in the winter we noticed that the air is usually not warm. When the auxillary heat light is on the thermostat it is warm, but otherwise it is constantly blowing what feels like cool air out of the vents. I've also noticed that the outside unit fan is not going, while the heater is on, I'm not sure if this is normally how a heater works or not. Obviously I do not know much about heating/AC units, any advice is appreciated

yep it's broke, You did not give enough information on the type of unit, age, fuel, geographic location, etc. I am going to assume a few things, so this may be total drivel. You have a heat pump which is an AC unit that switches and cools your back yard in the winter and heats the indoors with the R-22. If the AC doesn't work than the heat won't work, There are also strip or electric heaters in the blower that activate when the Aux light comes on. Is your filter clean, are any breakers trippen in the main panel...the condenser will be one of the doubles, is the water overflow switch b the blower/air handler up and triggered? If no joy with these call a pro,or your brother-inlaws cousin to fix it.
Be good to your fellow man not nice there is a difference.
