I've a York 90% gas, hot air furnace. Service guy replaced gasket on condenser box and had to take off inducer fan to get box off. The PVC exhaust flue pipe was connected to the fan port by a screw. Installation instructions say to RTV this connection and a screw. The tech said RTV wasnt' needed and was actually better for preventing furnace from stopping if exhaust flue was blocked since not being sealed with RTV would allow for relief. Sounds dangerous to me. Should I RTV this connection and is any RTV sealant ok to use (blue stuff used for car engines?) or what is recommended? TIA, Bob

Furnace guy was a hack. The manufacturer recommends RTV for a reason!

I use High Temp RTV. Its purpose is to prevent leakage of exhaust gases and products into your home.
If in doubt call a pro !

Tom, Thanks; where can I purchase some? Is it the orange caulk sold at HD (3M Fire Barrier caulk)?

The High Temp that I use is red in color. You can pick up a small tube of it at most auto parts stores.
