I recently replaced a very simple thermostat with a touchscreen Hunter model 44860 to control my heat pump (Carrier Model 25HCA336A300, Product Number is 25HCA336A0030010). I followed advice posted here and wired the new thermostat as follows:
New terminal = wire Rc/R = red C = brown Y1 = yellow W2 & E = white (used jumper) O = orange G = green
I also changed the factory setting to HEAT PUMP.
Most of the time, the unit works fine, and my house is comfortable. My problem comes in when it gets very cold outside. I was told by the A/C folks that the heat pump should supplement the heating with some sort of electric heating when the set point gets more than a few degrees away from the actual temp. I don't believe this is working correctly, because when they differ by more than a few degrees, the vents just blow cold air. Can someone offer advice?

Do you know if your pump is running outside or not, and do you have supplimentary heat? Normally the unit is suppose to be lockedout around 30 degrees and stripheat or furnace to be energized. Did you change the switchpoint on the stat?

It sounds like a bad heat strip or sequencer. Does the emergency heat function give you warm air?
"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.
