Need help with troubleshooting my gas furnace. Gas furnace will not turn on -- here are the symptoms:

1) gas furnace responds to thermostat
2) pilot becomes lit (i.e. ignition clicks as well)
3) after pilot expands in size, it contracts to normal, and a louder click (ie., clunk, if you will), continues; but burners do not activate
4) blower fan works (when switched from auto to on)

Any help/suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

thanks

m

Sounds like your gas valve is not working. Time to call a tech in!

If it ain't broke don't fix it!

thanks for the help.....i'm assuming that the problem is that there is not enough gas coming thru the valve ?

If this is a spark ignition system, sounds like the main valve on the gas valve is not opening. Have you a way to check voltage across the valve?
