I have an older furnace in my home. The pilot light goes out constantly and fills home with gas. I have info on the furnace but not brand name to get specific help for parts. mcquay-norris (not sure what this is) 24volt, 60 cycle, 1/2 PSI max, .42 amps, model u-974. Being a female everyone just tells me to hire someone. That's a luxury I can't afford at the moment. Can anyone tell me what I need and where to find it?

Probably your thermocouple. If you want to fix it your self, it is located right next to the pilot burner. Some are hard to get at though.

What you need is a service mechanic!! You are living in a very dangerous and deadly situation!! Money is always tight but you need to find a way,is this worth your life? Not trying to be a smart #$% just worried about your saftey!!

Big Glenn nailed it! Some things are better left to the professional and this is one of them. A house filled with gas is not healthy.
If in doubt call a pro !
