My husband replaced our t-stat with a new programmable Honeywell, and the AC works great (calls for air, turns on, blower starts a few seconds later,) but when the t-stat calls for heat, I can hear the furnace turn on, but the blower won't kick on. Any thoughts?

Is it an electric furnace? The old thermostat may have had a switch to turn on the fan simultaneously with the heat. The new tstat may have this switch on the subbase or need to be programmed for use with an electric furnace. Its a good idea to get an electrician or furnace tech to check the elements and wiring annually for safety etc. They may be able to setup the tstat at the same time.

No, it's a gas furnace. Could the old thermostat have had the switch, too, even though it's gas? We'll probably end up calling an HVAC specialist, but we're going to try another thermostat in the meantime....unless there are any other ideas.

You say you hear the furnace turn on or just a cick at the thermostat? Are you hearing an inducer blower starting? Did you actually see the flame light? If the blower is started by a clixs-on or bi-metal switch it will never come on unless the burners light. First thing I'd look at is making sure the thermostat is wired and programmed properly.
If in doubt call a pro !

The thermostat is in the hall and the furnace is in our utility area. When I turn the thermostat to heat, a flame symbol pops up on the t-stat, then I hear something going on in the furnace, but the fan/blower never turns on. If I switch to AC, a snowflake comes up on the t-stat, I hear the AC unit turn on, then the blower (which is the same fan for the furnace) starts blowing out cold air. The pilot is lit...we've checked that several times. :) So since the AC works and I do hear the furnace turn on, I assume (stupid, I know) that A. the t-stat is programmed properly B. the t-stat IS calling for heat from the furnace
So, my GUESS is that, either
A. somehow the furnace has a wire that isn't connected properly to the blower or that there's a fuse that's blown or a breaker that popped--but I don't even know if the actual furnace has any fuses and/or breakers (the breakers in the electrical box are all good).... or B. that for some reason the t-stat has power for the fan via the AC but not the furnace.

Still need to know if the burners are lighting. Also does the fan run if you put the tsat in the fan on position?

The fan does come on when the tstat is in the on position, but the air is not and does not get warm. And now I'm really gonna show my ignorance...but I don't know where the burners are. If they're near the pilot, then no, nothing is glowing/lit, etc. when the heater is turned on, except the pilot

Not sure whats going on without seeing it, but I'm pretty sure that theres something wrong in the t-stat wiring.

I think we got it figured out. We figured out why the burners weren't lighting, but the tstat still didn't turn the blower on. We tried a different tstat and now everything works as it should. Thanks for all the thoughts and ideas!
