I HAVE A DAYTON GAS FURNACE IN MY ATTIC. IT RUNS FINE FOR A FEW HOURS AND THEN CUTS OFF. I HAVE TO GO UP IN THE ATTIC (WHICH IS NOT EASY) AND HIT THE RESET BUTTON JUST FOR A FEW HOURS OF HEAT. WHY IS IT SHUTTING OFF??? COULD IT BE A DRAFT IN THE ATTIC? RECENTLY THE VENT PIPE FELL OFF THE ROOF AND I HAVE YET TO REPLACE IT, COULD THE DRAFT BE COMING FROM THERE???

Depends on the furnace. Could be going out on temp limit. What reset are you hitting? or are you just turning it off then back on.

Nope, you ain't stupid. If you really are running the system with the flue pipe off I'd say that qualifies you as a moron.

Vent pipe off isn't good. May be getting a backdraft and tripping a roll out switch.

If in doubt call a pro !
