Hello out there. Just discovered the site while looking for parts for my Frigidaire dated 1951. Some time before I bought the frige someone had modified it with a newer thermostat and has replaced the original YG relay with a YT relay and bypassed the original (huge) capacitor. Problem I'm having now is the YT relay keeps getting junked up with corrosion every 2-3 months and I have to clean the contacts with a light sanding and contact cleaner. I found a newer YT relay on ebay and thought it might do the trick. My concern is that the original was a YG relay with this huge capacitor. Am I only putting a band-aid on this or is this the way to go? P.S. this is a Canadian model I picked up while in Windsor if that makes any difference.

?????

Hi,
You can replace that relay with heavier contact rating or intall an arc suppressor on the relay.

I don't know anything specific to your system. However the problems you describe with the new relay are indicative of arcing. And mentioning the capacitor makes me even more certain you need that capacitor to mitigate the arcing.
