Had a new Carrier furnace installed with Riello burner. The burner once every 2-3 weeks (no pattern) shuts itself off -- It relights by me hitting the reset button. Service people do not know what is wrong.

Furthermore, when the burner shuts itself off, the fan will continue to blow past the normal "cool the burner off" time. Indeed, it will blow cold air for days if I do not reset the burner -- as it happened once when we were away.

The fan shuts off normally otherwise.

1. What might be causing the intermittent burner shutdowns?
2. Is the fan behavior a bug or a feature?

Thanks for any help here.

Post the model number. It's possible the burner shuts off before the set temperature is reached so the blower will continue due to the continued call for heat. Check that if you turn down the thermostat when this event happens again, that the main blower does shut off after two minutes.
