My furnace started acting up a couple of weeks ago. It seemed like in the morning it would not start. Overriding the programmable thermostat did not make a difference. I reset the T/S to leave it at a constant set point. Worked al day when we woke up, I could not get it to start. I have checked the fresh air intake screens. No blocks. I tried running it with the PVC off. same result. I will add that the blower runs automatically when I reset the main switch. After about 5 minutes, the blower relay drops the motor out. I followed the instructions to relight the Pilot. No go.
I also cleaned a sensor located below the burner unit. It was about 3/4 inches round about 1/2 inch thick with a silver silver cap. it has two wires to it. It did not look dirty. I measured a dead short across it.
It is a model 58sx100-cc-1 Series 170.
I can't seem to find the flame sensor. A few folks have told me that is usually the trick.
Any thoughts of where to go next?

Didn't see the Zippo lighter.
I tried to re bild the switch, I know a few things about them - design them for a living for cars.
Well anyway, I could not get the switch to leave the NC state. If I physically move the Wire from he NO terminal to the NC terminal the Pilot lights and every thing fires up. I was hoping to limp through the weekend this way until THe new unit arrives on Monday, but seems to me I might be bypassing some safety feature.
We'll just wear a few extra layers until Monday evening.

It looks like a chrome zippo lighter.

Do you get pilot flame with a heat demand? Do you own a meter?
