Replaced a thermostat for my GF, installed a cheap RiteTemp Thermostat 6020 from HomeDepot. Blower only works, heat works with blower set to auto and on, but when I select cool/auto the compressor clicks on outside, but the blower does not turn on inside. I can turn on AC and blower by selecting the Cool/ Fan On.
I called the Tech Support and my cell phone died right as the woman was telling me to jump something..
My 5 wires are set up as list below.
Red wire - RH White - W Yellow- Y Green- G Blue - RC
I looked through some previous post and found this info and I think it applies to my problem
* (G), Green, furnace blower fan. (needed for air conditioning, heat pumps and some electric furnaces). NOTE: on most thermostats the "G" and "Y" are connected together at all times when the fan switch is in the "Auto" mode!
Does this mean that I should jump the G and Y wire? Now that I think about it, the old thermo I took off had a small yellow wire on the front of it. I don't have the old unit in front of me at the moment...
Thanks for any help and advise ahead of time!
Tom

Are you sure that the blue wire was connected to rc? Normally with a GF, rh is not used and rc+rh are jumpered together at stat. Don't jumper g and y.

Blue should be verified by removing the panel at your furnace and notiing the low voltage field connections.
I suspect that it may be common.

Wow that was some fast advice. Thanks everyone. By GF I meant girlfriend, sorry that might have thown you off, did you mean gas furnace by GF? One piece of info I left out , the unit is electric heat. ..
I'll check blue at the furance tonight and post back. Just off hand if the blue wire is common, any idea what spot I should put the wire on the thermo?
Thanks Again, Tom

Thats the one Houston. I don't have the instructions on me but I think the directions I followed were on pg 18 or 19 . It was the one for 5 wire heat/cool. I used the jumper on #7 for electric heat.
Again everything works except the AC when on auto. Works fine with fan switched to the On position. I'm still going to check that blue wire that you mentioned earlier and post back what I find

Wire it as shown on page 17, but do not use your blue wire unless you have verified that it is common.(Common is optional with your stat).
Two transfomer systems are uncommon.

Well I removed the blue wire and put the jumper on #3 as it shows on page 17. Still does the samething :(
I don't get it. Why would the heater work on auto, but the a/c only cuts the compressor on outside while on auto. What would trigger the blower to turn on while in the auto position. The blower does turn on with the A/C but only if I set the blower in the on position
Sorry for being such a pest.. But thanks for the advise !!

While I would still verify the function of your blue wire, I suspect that you have a bad stat.
I recommend a Honeywell RTH7400 or RTH7500.

Going to check that blue wire saturday at the unit... Even though I don't know much about home HVAC systems I'm thinking I got a bad stat also.. I check out those that you have listed and put one in..
Thanks Man !

OK, I think you are right I got a bad stat.
I looked how the wires are wired at the unit and the blue and red wire from the stat to the unit are wired to the red wire at the unit.
Green from the stat was wired to green at the unit White from the stat was wired to white at the unit.
I'm going to get a Honeywell stat today per your recommendation and will see what happens.
The stat I took off was a manual stat and the one I put in (the Ritetemp one) is digital. I can use that blue wire to power the digital unit now instead of using batteries right?
Thanks for the help again Houston.. Hope everything works out later on today when I put the new one in..

Could I go with the Honeywell Model RTH230B ? It's a good bit cheaper but from the reviews looks a little bit harder to program.

Well Houston and Honeywell to the rescue :) Pulled out the crappy Ritetemp therm and put in Honeywell RTH110... and all is good now....
The Honeywell had RH and RC already jumped together, so I just but the red wire in one slot and did not use the blue wire and everything works..
Only thing I don't like about this stat is that you can't run it off the house power only batteries.. But that is not really a problem
Thanks Houston !
