I have an old york unit (I believe it's a Champion) that will not start (heat or cool). Pressing the contactor makes it start, but the control board status LED is flashing twice.

The control board is labeled "York Guard V 031-01298-000." It also has a label "Texas Instruments 6YG-2".

Can anyone tell me what the status code means and can anyone tell me where I can get a list of status codes for that unit?

Thanks.

2 Flashes indicates HIGH PRESSURE LOCKOUT.
This indicates the the refrigerant pressures have exceeded the safe limit for operation. Dirty air filter?/restricted indoor coil/indoor fan motor shutting down/outdoor fan motor not running, among other things.

To reset the system, turn power OFF to the indoor unit, then power back on. The system should start after 5 minutes following a call from the thermostat, until the system has another failure, to diagnose the problem.

The model number is no longer visible. I had hoped the information from the controller card would be sufficient. Would a picture help? Is there someplace I can look for the model number that might still be visible?

Do you have 24 volt demand supplied to your unit?
If not check your float switch, wiring, stat.

Do you have 24 volts to your contactor?
If you do, replace your contactor. If you do not, but you do have 24 volt power entering the unit, it is probably your pressure switch.

I will try to look up you trouble code.

No 24 volts to the contactor. Sorry, I should have said that in the first place. And yes, 24V to the control card (between Y and B/C correct.) (Would the status LED flash without it?)

2 = discharge pressure over 400 psig
3 = discharge line temp over 275 F
4 = discharge line temp did not hit 90 F with 1 hour of call for compressor
5 = 2 defrosts in 1 hour
7 = OD Sensor open or shorted
8 = Liquid line sensor open or shorted
9 = Bonnet sensor shorted

Thanks for the info. High pressure huh? It's too dark to look at it again tonight, but I'll check it out again tomorrow and see what happens after I get it reset. I've cycled the outside unit off and on, but not the indoor unit. I'll give that a try too. I'm guessing that since the 24V comes from inside, that's what needs to cycle to reset the board. Is that correct? (big Homer "Doh!")

I don't know what else I'll find, but I did discover some boxes parked against one of the two returns. I don't think it was enough to cause problems though.

What's likely to be the worst case scenario?

That would do it.

You might also verify that your filters clean.

Thank you all very much.

I believe I just needed to clear the returns and reset the card (and change the filter). I did that last night. The temperature has dropped overnight and the weather report has us in the 60s for the next few days, so it may be a while before that unit comes on again. It's an auxiliary unit added for a great room addition (in the '80s I'm guessing), so it doesn't always get missed.

If I have any more problems, I'll open a new thread.

Thanks again.
