I have an unheated garage below our kitchen. I recently installed a new insulated garage door & studded & insulated the cinder block exterior wall. We have a gas hot air system & a supply duct runs through the garage ceiling. Can I tap off that supply duct with a register to heat & cool the garage???? If I do, will it divert too much heat from the duct feeding the living spaces???? Also, will I need a return duct from the garage to the heater which is located in the basement right on the other side of an interior garage wall???

Ken

even if you only put a supply duct to the garage fumes can be drawn into the house when the furnace fan is off

Best bet is to install a small Reznor to heat your garage. It will heat up fast and should not cost to much to operate. It is illegal in the U.S. to put a return in your garage. You would suck up exhaust or other harmful fumes and supply them into the living spaces.

You cannot steal air from one area to heat another. All of your ducts are sized for the rooms they serve. Also you must not put a return in the garage. It's a matter of life and death.
