Has anyone ever seen a house with no air filter in the house? Every house I have lived in had either 1 or 2 air filters located in the ceiling that I changed out quarterly. My current house which was built less than 2 years ago has no filters inside the house, just vents without filters. The only filter I see is in the attic. Did the installers go the cheap route and not install a filter on the intake/return side (sorry don't know which is which, all I know is to change the filter in the ceiling)or is it common to not see an air filter inside the house? Do I need to install one myself? Thanks!

The filter may be inside the furnace cabinet.

Locate the return air and start tracing it backwards.

Someone may have removed it without replacing.

Life lesson #12 Know when not to do it yourself.
WOW That Can Hurt!!

I think the furnace cabinet is the one in the attic. So it is ok not to have air filters in the ceilings? (The vents don't even swing open to place one in it.) Thanks.

As long as there IS a filter somewhere within the system... thats the important thing. They may have added an electronic unit at the furnace and don't need the filter in the return grille any longer? Someone may have forgot to put a new one in? Remember-- you just need one... somewhere.
