"2 part question about thermostat" , posted Sun 20 Apr 20:43user profileedit/delete messagepost reply

My current digital thermostat will not let me lower the temp setting below 90. I thought this must be a thermostat issue so I went and bought a new Honeywell rth230b programmable electronic thermostat. I went to install the new one with Rh RC W Y G listed only to see that my old one has c r y1 w2 g o. So my questions are is this a thermostat issue and do I just need to buy a different thermostat to work with my old system?

Thanks
Tim

Do you have a heat pump?

If so the t-stat you purchased will not work

Also look on the old t-stat there may be a reset button that might correct your issue

It is a wall mount air handler Grand Air Heating and cooling systems. That is the extent of my Ac knowledge. However I can connect Old wires with letters to new thermostats with the same letters but beyond that I am lost.

Thanks

Did you have a connection at the O terminal?

If so you have a heat pump. You need a different t-stat.

If you also have a wire at W2, you have a multistage heat pump.
