i'm looking into buying an older house that has never had a/c installed. it has radiator heating and no duct work. the owner is going to install a/c for me, and i need to know what i should request. the house is about 2500 sq ft. i'd like to probably shoot for a mid-ranged unit, and get a formal eval to get the right sized unit. sooo...
what seer should i request?
what are a couple of brands that have good warranties?
he said he'd do 1 zone, which i think should be ok...
should i push for a 2 stage system?

Without being able to see the house nobody here can get you detailed advice. However, I assume it is going to be in the attic (ductwork and airhandler). You should get 3 or more quotes and advice from reputable contractors who have done this work in your area. I would then see how much $$ the owner is willing to spend. I would get a 16 SEER Lennox unit and offer to pay the difference. That way you both win and you get a better more efficient unit for the long run.
