I am considering adding a Aprilaire filter (the one that is 5 or so inches thick). They advertise 1 year per filter change. In my current furnace I use a 1 inch 3M filter.
Is it worth the price for the filter setup? I have seen the sales literature, but those tests are in a lab. Do you really get 1 year per filter?
I have used the 3M 1 inch thick filter (the allergy model)and have had good luck with that one too.
The Aprilaire option is $400.

Those filters are great and will keep your system spotless. If you don't mind paying for the install then absolutely do it. If not, the 1" 3M pleated filters also work great when changed regularly. I would recommend either of those over an Electronic air cleaner.

The AprilAire filters generally last 9 to 15 months on average, sometimes longer. The filter media runs around $40-50. It is really a matter of personal opinion which everyone has to decide on their own.

The first Space Gard generally makes 6 months or so, with the second doing the 9 to 15 months. The first catches a lot of old trash.
