Hello. I'm a novice newbie with a question that may or may not be simple.
I have a split system in my house, the compressor outside and the air handler inside (and up in the attic). This weekend while trimming back the hedges around the compressor part, I accidentally cut a part of the "brown wire" that runs to the unit from under the house. This "brown wire" actually has the red, blue, green, etc. inside and only a couple of those were actually cut.
First of all, what it that brown wire called?
Second, can I just splice it back together neatly?
Third, if I can't splice it, do I need to replace the entire thing?
Thanks a million to anyone who can help me understand this. If I have to call someone, at least I'll have a little knowledge on my side.

That would be your "low voltage control wires". You can splice these back together. You should first shut off indoor unit to prevent shorting wires together when you make the repair.
