Hello All, Need some advice / recommendations on a new air conditioner unit... We currently have a Trane XE900 sitting outside in the backyard that apparently is all rusted out and pretty much dead. This is according to the AC guy that came out. He is suggesting a York Guardian as the replacement to our Trane and he is charging us $1950 for the unit, including install.
The AC guy was an old tenant of my in-laws and seems pretty straight forward and knowledgable as this is what he does for a living. I think this is more a side job for him. Having little knowledge of the AC realm, I'm unsure of how I should move forward. Just don't want to get more insight from the pros.
Lastly, I believe our place was built in 1990 and is approx. 1700 sq feet.
My questions are:
1) Is this the right unit for us? If not, what is? 2) Is the $1950 charge reasonable? 3) Anybody have experience in So Cal, Orange County area that can recommend someone for an additional estimate / verification of the problem. Is this necessary. 4) Should I go to Sears? 5) Should I search for manufacturers who have rebates?
I thank you in advance for your insight and help!

The matching indoor coil should be installed to avoid damaging your new compressor and achieve rated efficiency.
Some manuals state that you void compressor warranty without the matching evaporator coil. (Such as the ICP you'd get from Sears).
"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.
