I want to replace my gravity heater because it takes up so much room. I have a 3000 sqft house. Two story with basement. The heater is in the basement. I want an efficient system so my monthly bills don't skyrocket. I also want the ability to add central air in the future. I thought about hydro radiant heating for the main floor because there is access to the underside in the basement. If I do that, then I need to get heat up to the top floor and basement. Original vents are there to the main floor and top floor so they can be hooked into easily. Is the radiant heat a waste of time if I have to get a large enough furnace to heat top floor and basement and to be able to cool the whole house when central air is added? (1000sqft/floor)

Yes. Electric heat is very expensive in most parts of North America. Get 3-4 quotes from reputable contractors about a high efficient furnace and possibly a heat pump and ductwork. Don't go for the cheapest price. You get what you pay for. Get the contractor to do a proper heat load/loss calculation to ensure you get the correct size units. Pay a few $$ and do it yourself also.
