OK I have decided to have the following equipment installed, and would like your opinions before purchase. My home is in Atlanta and is approx 1675 sq ft. I had 3 contractors come out for bids and 2 of them used Goodman only equipment and one gave me bids for both Goodman and Trane equipment (huge difference in cost). This is what I have decided on:
GMH950703BX furnace GSC140361A Condenser CAPF3636B6 Coil
All 3 said to replace my line set, so I will, also 2 of them said they need to run a new flue for my furnace and it will be PVC pipe, is this correct? They also said they cannot run it in the same area as my current metal flue, but will run it outside the side of my house, why is that?
Thank you for your educated opinions!

Yes, replace the line set with the new install.
The new furnace (95%) is required to be ran with PVC piping through the side of the house, it does not use metal vent piping. The shorter the distance from furnace to end the better. Also need to cut back on 90 and 45 ells.
Looks like a good choice. And yes, there is big price difference in Goodman vs. Trane equipment.

Buy any extended warranty that they offer. Not because it is bad equipment but all units are expensive to fix these days. Gives you worry free operation for a few years. Must have it serviced properly once a year to maintain the warranty.

Sounds pretty good. Who did the load calcs?
Were considering the 0453BX?
How's the weather in Georgia? Your low heat runs at 49875 BTU?
You got some wiggle room to add square footage to the house.
On a bet, I would like beef up the insulation, go smaller and run longer. Once up, couldn't you keep it comfy at 32063 BTU under 12 minute cycles?

You're the guy writing the check.
BTW what was the price difference in your original bids?

Thanx, (I think?!) are you saying I should go with a smaller furnace and/or condenser? 2 of the 3 bidders did some calcs and both came up with 3.3 tons of cooling, didnt get info on heating. The winters here can get pretty cold. The difference in price between the Trane and Goodman was over 2200 dollars, the price differnce between v/s and multi-speed (Goodmans) was just over 110 0 dollars.

Not really a perfect world. If a guy says I put in Trane and Goodman. That doesn't help the customer if the equipment doesn't match the load closely.
From 3000 miles away the Goodman 70_3 looks pretty good, maybe not perfect.
In the current geo-political energy cycle we are in, would like match close. Does Carrier, York, Payne or who ever, make something closer?
An EPA study says that oversizing heat doesn't effect consumption that much, but it does have a NEGATIVE effect on comfort. I think the study is mis-characterized in the industry to mean over sizing is OK.
Lets face it, fiddling with the settings EVERYDAY will WASTE ENERGY and have a NEGATIVE EFFECT ON COMFORT.
I guess I'm part of the Greenhouse Gang.
