Ok, I tore into the thing this morning and found a reset switch on the blower shroud that was popped....reset it and the furnace works again!

One question that now comes up is that the gas jets sometimes kick off before the fan starts. It appears the gas jets run a good long time heating the unit up, and sometimes the blower will kick in, in time, and sometimes it misses it and the limit switch cuts off the gas. When the unit cools, it will try again and maybe the fan makes it in time, maybe not.

I was thinking that the limit control could be the issue, but then started to think (which typically gets me into trouble) that it might be something else. Is there a sensor that activates/deactivates the blower when the heat exchanger is at a certain temp?

I can manually turn the fan on and the gas jets will turn on and off as they should based on the thermostat call for heat requests. It's just when it tries to turn on the fan on it's own where it's 50/50 shot it will start before the limiter shuts the system down due to too hot a temp in the exchanger (unless my limiter is not functioning properly?).

Thanks!

Sounds like a bad fan & limit switch to me. Replace it.

At this URL, about half way down, they show 3 limit type devices:

http://arnoldservice.com/Troubleshooting_Heating_Problems.htm

I have the big rectangular type one right off the heat exchanger, but on the blower shroud, I have something like the one in the middle. Do you know off hand what the one in the blower shroud does? Is that one I should replace or is the one on the heat exchanger the one to replace or both?

BTW, this unit is a downdraft model.

Thanks!

This is a common problem on the bryant 80+ set up as a counterflow. Make sure your filter and a/c coil are clean and registers are open.
