bought new home and have some questions regarding the choice of a new system or not. gas use for furnace is almost nil and warms very well. system runs non-stop when cooling is needed, service technician verified proper operation and correct pressures. i performed a manual-J load calculation with available software and have some concerns about the current unit. specs: Tempstar outside unit NAC024AKB1 Tempstar inside unit NTG3050FBG1 Coils EED24B15C1 i came up with a 2.3 ton requirement and i think these are only 2 ton components? also the lineset was necked down to a smaller size between the condenser and the coils inside. with just aircraft maintenance background to draw upon that doesn't seem like it would help efficiency. have also noticed some corrosion around the lineset where it attaches to the coils. No problem with the gas furnace but feel that if I if I have to replace the coils that would be a good time to upgrade what appears to be a fairly cheap furnace. AFUE stamp says 80%. suggestions, ideas, or opinions on any or all are appreciated.

I would definatley advise you buy a furnace with a variable speed motor, lennox just came out with one called the g71 it's an amazing unit.

That is a 2 ton unit (024=24,000 BTU = 2 tons). It probably has a lot of running hours/wear and tear on it in your climate. The compressors wear out and the capacity drops. It is the cheaper of the brands. Recommend you look at the higher SEER Lennox units like the XC15/16 and a G50 furnace. Pay a bit more but the quality and longevity is there. You get what you pay for. Go with a 2.5 ton A/C. They also make a really good Humiditrol system which is very good in humid climates. Unique to Lennox.
