Hello All,
Need some qick help/advice.
I have agreed to an AC guy to come out to replace our broken down Trane XE900 with a 3 Ton Guardian 13 Seer Unit.
He states we do not need to replace the coil in the attic because the unit comes with a built in coil. Is this accurate? Please let me know ASAP because I'm going to give him a $1250 deposit tomorrow.
Please help FAST!
Thank you in advance!

The outside unit has a condenser coil. The inside unit has an evaporator coil. If he is not replacing the inside unit then he intends to re-use your evap coil which will make your system 10 seer instead of 13. Evaporator coils are not built into outdoor condensing units.

So would you absolutley change the evap coil? Is this the coil that would void the warranty on the condensor if not changed?
Why wouldn't he suggest changing it? I'm concerned now.

Thanks Duke!

The indoor coil does not have to be replaced and warranties will vary. I believe outdoor unit should still be warrantied. Your tech doesn't want to work in the attic and I can't blame him for that, but to replace whole system at once with matching equipment would be best. Not always practical.
