I am replacing a 4 Ton Evp coil that has gone bad. How much refrigeration oil do I need to put back in? I'm recovering all the r22 that is in the system using a recovery machine and will be reusing it. The Condenser outside will remain untouched.

What type of refrigeration oil do I need and how should it be
put into the system? Dump it in the low pressure line?

Thanks in advance!!
Ryan

If you are not an hvac tech or a real good automechanic with plumbing skills, you should leave all that to the pros. If you contaminate the system you will destroy it. Compressor and all.

Hi theduke03

Thanks for the obvious warnings. This is why I'm here to ask. On a car one drains the evp core to guesstimate how much to return to the system.

My question is how much is needed when replacing an evp core, IF any, when recovering the r22 to return.

Thanks

Ryan, you do not have to add oil. Just be sure to use solder and flux or braze that is OK for refrigeration piping and evacuate system properly before recharging system. You should also add a filter drier to system or if it already has one replace it. So are you an automechanic?

Agreed on the inline dryer. Recommend a particular dryer model for a 4 ton system? Any risk of pressure drop?

Not professionally but I've done all my own work for years on everything.

I would typically put one on the liquid line unless I had reason to believe system was contaminated(found foreign debris in system, water, system empty and open to atmosphere for extended or unknown time). In that case I would put an additional drier on the suction line. These driers are labeled on the box for line size(O.D.), type of connection(flare or sweat), and capacity(1 ton=12,000 btu). As long as you use the right one, there should be no pressure drop. Please tell me that you have or have access to a vaccum pump, micron gage, manifold gages, and a thermometer. And know how to use these.
