I had an Aprilaire 8366 thermostat put in. It works fine for a two stage Armstrong furnace but does not turn on fan alone or AC. Any solutions. Tried to figure out wiring but too confusing. The previous Thermostat worked fine.

Does your stat have terminals labeled RH, and RC? if so there should be a jumper between these two terminals. Im suspecting you have the red wire going to RH with no jumper to RC. Check that and let us know if that's not it.

Ok - so I tried the jump thing and it made it worse. Now if turn on the furnace in the basement with the main switch the blower comes on bull bast regardless of a need for heat or not. Now there is no signal to put on heat. The heat used to be ok - now it's is worse. Is there a fuse on the stat. Any suggestions?

Was your fan switch at stat in the on position when this happened? Try auto. Also check connections at furnace to make sure the color wires correspond to the stat RWYG is not always red, white, yellow, green.

Looks like you have black wired to common at the furnace and wired to RC at the stat. Your new stat does not use common. Remove blak and tape it off. I didn't see a low voltage fuse in the pictures. You probably need a new transformer.

Those pictures sure look like they are from a Trane furnace.

The funny thing is - the heat was working fine but not the fan and then tried to get the air going and nothing happened. Tried to jump as suggested but I think that blew the transformer. Will I get heat back if I tape this off or is this a suggestion for the future once I get a new transformer.

Well, you didn't post that you already had a wire connected to Rc at the time. I can easily see that it would not take out your transformer untill you jumpered R to common.

You need a new transformer.

I see a furnace control transformer (top), a a variable speed motor transformer (right)and a third transformer (left)in the picture. I wonder what kit your 3rd transformer is connected to?

The fuse is in your furnace on the circuit board. It is also possible that you a low voltage circuit breaker.

Examples from other makes...

3 amp fuse may look like an E.

low voltage circuit breaker...

Thanks for your reply but I have a Armstrong SX 95 furnace. I can't find a circut breaker on this furnace except for the main fuse box. Here's a review. The heat worked up until I began trying to solve the cooling system problem. About a few month ago I had a Aprilair 8366 thermostat put in. I don't think the tech tested the air with the new stat. I knew something was wrong when the fan didn't go on by itself. I then tried the jump suggetion and it has been down hill since. I turn the main switch on and the blower goes on full force. Any suggestion- call a tech? This Armstrong has been all problems.

It should still have a fuse on the board. Do you have a digital camera? Pictures can be posted on this site using www.photobucket.com upload your picture, left click ithe IMG Code, right click and past on your post.

You are correct. There is no jumper between the two terminals. So where do I get a jumper. Thanks so much -

A jumper is just a piece of wire.
