Just had a Trane Heatpump with auxillary Gas furnace installed. Honeywell TH5220D1003 thermostat was installed. System was installed by a friend who was a HVAC mechanic who has left the area for a new job. The problem is system will not manually switch to Emer Heat(gas furnace) While in heating mode works fine, heatpump works until ambient temp gets to a preset temp then switches to gas furnace automatically. Just cannot switch it over manually. The thermostat is wired as follows-
red wire to RC
R/RC jumper wire
yellow to Y
Blue to C
Orange to O/B
White to E
L to AUX jumper wire
E-AUX jumper wire
I do not know if this is wired correctly. If it is could someone give me an idea of what could be wrong.
Thanks alot
Tom

There is a Trane 18-HD27D1-1 Outdoor therostat kit installed on the heatpump.

What is being used as a temperature sensor outside to determine whether the heat pump or furnace is operational?
Do you have a dual fuel kit on the furnace?
This thermostat does not have the capability for outdoor temperature sensing to change over to furnace by the thermostat, that would require a TH8200 series thermostat.

Also, leave L disconnected and make sure White is jumpered from AUX to E. The L terminal should not be jumpered to AUX or E.

Page 5 and 7 of your manual may help.

"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.
