Yesterday. Today was 76 degrees and momma had the t-stat set for 74, when the outside unit kicked in I went over to enjoy the new quiet. For a goof I felt the outside lines, the big one was cold and slightly wet but the little one was not warm at all. Is this correct? On my old system the big one was cool but the little one was almost hot to the touch. My neighbor says it might be because this unit is more efficient than the old system, what do you think, do I need to call the A/C company?

Your neighbor is correct. Normally with a clean condensor coil on your outdoor unit and 74 deg outside the big line should be cold and the little one warm, not HOT. Your old unit probably had a very plugged up coil and could not get rid if the heat fast enough. Make sure you keep the new one clean, wash it out with a hose occasionally, saves energy $$. It is good to get the freon level checked yearly and an annual maintenance done.

Thanx Yuri

The little line was not warm at all, I would say it was the same temp as the outside air. My neighbor came back by and put his gages on it (he does his own car a/c work) and said the pressures were 70 on the little line and 165 on the big line. He said that was way to high for a cars a/c but wasnt sure about home a/c. Does that sound right to you? One thing is a sure am enjoying the quiet of the outside a/c!

for starters you are absolutly correct this is a forum for advice. you received the right advice. leave it alone before you screw it up. car ac and home ac are diffrent. if the pressures you stated are right for the lines you said, its a heat pump running in heat mode.

Durt

Nope this is not a heatpump in heat mode. Should I call the installers back, it seems to be cooling well.

Why call the installer when it is cooling well? Hot, cold, warm, cool, are all relative terms that really mean nothing. Pressures dont mean much without temps and the knowledge to interperate said readings.. What you should be concerned with is if the temp in house reaches setpoint on stat or not. Yes=good, No=broken. If you really need to know it's status you should call a pro or have it serviced annually. Or else...
