I was gone this past weekend, and before I left, I turned my unit down to the coolest setting possible, while still having the "heat" turned on. I have an electric heat/ac unit, similar to one that you would find in a hotel, where you press one button for heat, one button for AC. When I returned from my weekend trip, I came home to an apartment that was roughly 130 degrees. It was hot enough to over heat and kill my animals, as well as hot enough to melt candles that I had that have never been burnt, into balls of wax. I immediately turned off the unit, obviously, but now, even when I turn it back on, all it does is run. It doesn't turn on and off like it should to regulate the temperature. It just runs continuously. Anyone have any ideas? According to what I can find on the unit itself it is a Zoneaire Comfort Line 2400 I think. Serial # CO523S 2400 Anyone have any ideas on what caused this and what needs to be done/checked? My landlord needs to have someone take a look at it, but I don't want to go into this blindly and have him say something like "it was caused by a dirty filter" because it wasn't, my filter is clean, only a month old, and its been cleaned before this happened, its not dirty, I double checked after this incident as well. Thanks!

Sorry about your animals. The problem is not due to a dirty filter. It is caused most likely by a stuck relay or sequencer inside the unit itself or a faulty thermostat. Leave it turned OFF for safety and get the landlord to fix it ASAP (fire hazard).
