Verify that the pins connecting your new stat to the subbase are intact (and not broken or bent) Verify that your stat wires have not broken at the stat terminals.
It appears to be wired and configured correctly except that you need a jumper between Aux and E. I see brown used for C (common) on Carrier and Bryant diagrams. I doubt that this is your problen since you have display.
This is probably one of the best stats available today , I own the TH8321 myself, but it is possible that you have a bad stat.

Well, you were definitely right about the jumper between Aux and E. That improved the switch over to the furnace when the heat pump failed.
We talked to Carrier (Bryant, and maybe also Payne ... soooo many brands in one building). They had us switch to a Bryant Preferred Series dual fuel thermostat (Part # T6-PRH01). This is actually a very nice thermostat.
New Problem: We installed the thermistor on the heat pump, and it's not correctly reporting the outside temperature to the inside thermostat. It's not our biggest problem, so we'll look at that later.
Old Problem: The heat pump still turns on when heat is requested, but immediately turns off again. We considered the idea that both the furnace and the heat pump were turning on together, and that both running together was causing a press switch fault. We disabled the white wires on the furnace, and the heat pump still turned off after just a few seconds. Air conditioning runs just fine.
With our old problem still in mind, and the Carrier/Bryant recommended thermostat with much simpler wiring in place, we are now assuming we have a bad pressure switch, or a bad control board.
The pins on the Honeywell stat were just fine. We actually tested them to confirm which signal was being sent.

Is your air filter and evaporator coil clean? What is the difference between supply air and return air temperature at the grills? 18 degrees?
I doubt that it is a faulty pressure switch. It is remotely possible though.
The thermister in your heat pump will not communicate with your stat. You would need a separate outdoor temperature sensor possibly TSTATXXSEN01-B. I thought that one ships with the stat. The part number for your new stat is tough to look up. What is the model? I'm more familiar with Carrier part numbers.
The Carrier dual fuel stat is okay, but I prefer the Honeywell Touchscreen. Too bad we couldn't get that one to work.
