Ok I am looking at replacing my 15yr old system with a new 3.0 ton Goodman GSC140361A ac unit / AEPF42601 Variable speed airhandler. I got two quotes and both seem very resonable to install and remove my old unit. Here is my question - one quote has ( 3/8" and 1 1/8" linesets + 7/8" to 1 1/8" adaptor) and the other just says ( 3/8" and 7/8" linesets ). Now is there an advantage to using a bigger lineset tubing if it just reduces back down? I asked the salesman and was told that is what they recommend. There is only a couple hundred dollars difference so what should I do???

Yuri's right, if the run is under 50ft, don't need to oversize the piping. By the way, copper pipe is quite expensive now-a-days.

If the lineset goes over 50 ft in length it needs to be 1 1/8in. if less, then 7/8 is okay. I checked the Goodman specs 4U. Buy from the co. with the best track record with BBB and see if they have references from happy customers.
