Hello everyone. This is my first post. I did some digging on the internet and couldn't find anything directly applicable to my problem, so here I am.

About 18 months ago a local company installed a York R-410A Affinity Series HVAC unit on my roof, replacing an older unit. Since then, every time we start the unit (either to heat or the cool) on bright sunny days we get a noticeable ozone smell coming out of the vents.

Had the company come out a check the unit, it passes inspection. They even replaced the entire fan. They also made sure that all ducts were sealed and that the return air duct was sealed as well.

Ozone is still coming out of the vents. The hotter the day, the stronger the smell.

I'm at a loss and out of original warranty.

Does York have a history of any problems like this? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Daniel

It smells like those old model train transformers. Something like burnt metal.

Have thought it might be the mastic used to glue the flexible foil duct material to the vent housings. Our attic/crawl space gets *very* hot in the summer and there isn't much insulation left up there after 60 years. (House was built in 1947.)

The smell gets weaker as the house cools down when running the AC.

Thanks for the replies folks!

Hvac units do not use or produce ozone, although electronic air cleaners do produce small amounts. I think you're smelling something else.
