Hi, I just purchased a new home, it has a trane system on it that is one year old.
My question is this,in the hallway where the return filter is located, there is a small red light where the filter goes, there is a poping noise, almost like a bug zapper, is this dangerous?
Should I not run the unit? it works great, nice and cool,
I found one site on the internet that said it was an electronic filter, never seen one like this, do I just need to clean it?Can I clean it ? Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Turn off power, press the test button, remove the prefilters and the 8500 VDC filters. Some owners wash them in the dishwasher. You can spray a mild degreaser and rinse them with a water hose.

Allow them to completely dry before putting them back in.
I usually stand them on their corners while drying to improve drainage.

"Tip of the Day" Remember to remove power first.

Thank you for your help!! I really appreciate it.
So is the poping a normal function of this type of filter, I thought my house was going to catch fire from an electrical short.

That is normal operation if only intermittant. A continous popping might indicate that it needs cleaning. They should be cleaned every 6 months to a year depending on environment.

We have customers that have me clean theirs 4 times a year.
