I'm just wondering if I can replace a 10 seer Reem AC only unit with a heat pump the same size and keep the piping and inside unit as is.

Heat pumps and the newer higher SEER units use a different size indoor coil. The newer units use R410 instead of R22. The piping needs to be replaced to avoid contamination from the old R22 and oil.
