I was just thinking also that, any information as to what other problems could cause the fusible link to go bad (if that is in fact the problem)would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Sorry, I thought I was replying to my other post with this one. But I did want to say that I already read that my heat exchanger may be bad though I doubt it as the furnace is only about ten years old. So any OTHER ideas.....

Might be a good time for a service call. Someone needs to put a multimeter to use on your furnace. With this they will be able to tell if your fusealbe link is good or bad. If it's bad, it would be a good idea to have the heatexchangers inspected. Could also be a venting issue. If it's good that multimeter can find out why your gas valve is not opening.

If in doubt call a pro !
