This season I set thermostats to cool and the outside condensor would not start so I bump started the contactor and it stayed engaged an ran for about 30 mins or longer with no cool air...Then it turn off (by itself before air flow turned cool) with the thersmostat still signaling cool and now it will not stay on by bumping the contactor although the compresor and fan still engage if i hold the contactor down for a second... I checked the starting compacitor for its rating and it rates out to the specs stamped on it...any help thanks dave

Most likely an open low pressure switch due to a low charge/leak. Just speculation but it can be verified with a meter and a set of gages. Do you have either?
